My Sterling hates some batteries

So I popped in a new Panasonic 9 volt into my Sterling last night ... I tried to tune her but the tuner wasn't getting any signal from the bass. I swapped batteries (put the tuner's battery in the Sterling and visa versa) and same thing .... no signal. (the other battery was an Energizer)

I finally put the "old" battery back in (a Duracel) and it was fine again. Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

I find this a bit strange .... Do MM electronics "hate" some batteries? I guess ill buy new Duracels and try that out.

this happened to me during at my college class

what you do
is you put the battery in and play for about five mins with the power on your am on.
the sound will cut in
and out
and in
and out

i think it has to do with the battery like warming up
the only problem iv found with my sterling so far

We have found that all batteries are not the same size. If you have put in an oversized battery, make sure to check your contact points on the battery box. They can get bent out, and not make contact.

Jon, hate to tell u, but even some duricells dont fit in, the end metal things are rotated some times, and wont fit in...thats why i had t o send my bass do u

Yeah, but the Duracell's are more consistant in size than other brands, and seem to work the best in our guitars.

Always used Duracells. Never had a single problem with them not being the right size.

I almost always use Energizers in my Sterling, SR4, and previously in my SR5 until some fatigue wearing bass player bought it from me in a moment of weakness Never had any problems w/any of them. Haven't tried Duracells because the grocery store doesn't stock them.

Buy a big box of Duracell Procell batteries. They are very consistant in size, they last nearly twice as long as the ones you buy at the grocery store, and are generally cheaper since they're bought in bulk.

Speaking of batteries.. How long does a battery usually last on the SR 5 when you run in passive mode most of the time?

Unless you've had some serious modifications, you're in active mode all the time. I mean, there's no bypass or anything.

Battery life depends on how much time your bass spends plugged in.

Thanks.. I will get me an extra battery. Just been playing so much and so long I thought maybe it wasn't hitting the battery. Of course that means another Duracell.

In basses I don't play frequently, the batteries last a good long time.

The Sapphire Black Bongo? I got that in November of last year, and it still has the original batteries in it - and that one gets played quite a bit, really.

I just unplug it when not in use.
