My StingRay 5H is Different than the one I played in GC yesterday.
Mine is a 2006 StingRay 5H that I bought sight unseen at MF.
The one I played at GC yesterday had different screw tabs on the pickups like the Bongo.
Mine has the 5 string soap bar shape. Also, the one at GC battery compartment was on the bottom horn under the neck. My batter compartment is near the back of the bass near the control knobs. Both my bass and the one at GC serial #s starts with E adn 5 digits.
They sounded the same.
Also, the pole pieces on GC bass were more flush like the Bongo than mine.
Just a curious observation.

It looks like they changed the pickup cover. I looked on Gav's site and all of the 06 SR5 Hs had the cover like you describe on your bass.

Here is a link to a pick of what I'm assuming is an 07, because it looks like it has the compensated nut and the new style pickup cover.

Here's a Dargie (below the 20th), which I'm also assuming is an 07.

Right, they seem to be phasing in the Bongo style pickup cover on the single H SR5's.
So with that said, I wonder if the white pickup covers will be discontinued once the 'soapbar' type stock is depleted?

The HH SR5's have to have the battery compartment near the neck, so maybe it just makes sense (production cost wise) to have things more standardized.

Yeah...........mine is an '06 Stingray 5 H with the compensated nut. The pickup is rounded at the edges and the battery compartment is towards the bottom of the bass.

That looks cool, it's the first white cover I've seen. Saw a new one getting unpacked a couple weeks ago, and it still had the old style cover.

When I ordered a new SR5 pickguard from Beth this summer, she said they introduced the new style sometime in October 2006. My white SR5 H (5/17/06) has the old style pickup and the battery compartment toward the bottom of the bass. My Dargie Delight SR5 H (1/31/07) and my natural SR5 H (10/9/07) have the new style pickup and the battery compartment toward the neck side of the body. One other change was made--on the new SR5 H models, the pickup selector is not angled like the old style, but is parallel to the strings and the neck, like the HH models.

I prefer the old style on 5s... they look proper sleek =]

I would like the new on the 4 though, for a more trad vibe =]
