Neck Finish

What year did the SR neck finish change from the gloss poly to the gunstock oil and wax?

I prefer poly. I know the gunstock oil and wax is better for speed but I don't have sweaty boy hands so I can glide on poly.

from the 80's to early-mid 90's . . .

Certain poly necks are horrid for me until i start sweating and it gets kinda slimy, as nasty as that is. Was playing a F3nder marcus miller sig the other day and it was sticky as hell for a while.

I'm like you Lisa. My strings last a long time and my necks stay clean. That being said I STILL prefer the feel of a unfinished neck. Feels more intimate. Plus, it decreases the neck radius just a tad bit more and my tiny hands love that.

Wash your hands before use!!!

I know exactly what Figgy's talking about when you go to a store and try a bass with a finished neck--- the stickiness partly a result from the countless number of people pawing the instrument and their sweaty contribution. Don't fault the neck finish. There's no telling what people have touched before they touched the instrument... I shutter to think of it.

Handwashing pays off. Today was the first time I've ever had to clean my MM4 with lemon oil and I've had my MM4 for almost two years now.

I've got massive hands with long fingers, but I've never had any problems with sweat or "body oils" affecting strings or necks.

I'm one of the non-sweaty-hands type, so my strings & necks go a long time between changing/cleaning. I adore the feel of a Stingray neck!!

Gunstock oil for the intimacy factor. And I like fat necks, so no skinny Sterling neck for me.
