Hey my name is sandy and I've been playing guitar for just over a year now I have 2 guitars a fender strat and a Ibanez RGT42. I recently started using ernie balls for my guitars after a friend reccomended them to me. I've recently changed my tuning on my ibanez to C (C, F, A#,D# ,G, C) and i am using ernie ball's Not even slinky strings. This mite sound like a Tech question but the 24p string seems to buzz at the 11 fret on the 3rd string. it doesnt buzz anywhere else and i am pretty good at setting up my guitar been doin it for at least half a year now. could it be a flaw with the string or is my guitar playing up. There is a bit of relief on the neck but i normally play it with almost no relief (about.002")

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated cause its a bastard when i do tapping at the 11th it buzzes like hell

P.s was thinking i mite need a 4th trem spring ( i know this isnt a ibanez forum but they dont have one and i cant afford a EBMM JP model :( )

Well, I'm not one of the resident setup experts on this forum, but I've learned a thing or two from listening to them. So here are some ideas:

* raise the saddle for the 3rd string (if possible)

or

* shim the neck a little

If the buzz is not audible through your amp, I would probably just live with it. I have an Ib@nez S370 that buzzes on the 6th string at just one fret. It doesn't affect the amplified signal, so I haven't tried to fix it.

I also have a Music Man John Petrucci 6-string model. I'd recommend saving all your pennies and buying one someday. :)

It may seem like a lofty goal but you will be glad that you did.
 
cheers mate think i'll just have to live with it i guess cause ive checked out everywhere else out on the guitar(yes i did all strings all frets) and its only that damned fret that does it. Im back home tonight so ill see what its playing like but i put some relief on the neck (more than normal) so hopefully this mite have rectified the problem.

I def want a JP but it'll take a while to save me cash for it me being a poor uni student n all ;)

Don't know much about it so here is a shot in the dark. What would happen if you sanded that particular fret down just a smidge? (make it nice and smooth of course)

Would that help or just make other things worse? :confused:
