Ok so I'm hearing alot of difference between my 2 and 3 band stingrays when set flat. I know the preamp differences is more than just the presence or lack there of, of a mid control. My question is, is there anyway to set my 3 band to give it more of the 2 band feel. There must be a way to match up the frequencies of each, but I'm just without a clue over here. And for you guys who think the 2 sound the same, just remember that BP says that the 2 eq gives that classic StingRay sound more naturally than the 3 (or something like that) I'm also gonna contact EB customer service, but its sunday and I have a show :D
 
I did the Rod Trussbroken mod and changed a 3 band sr4 to a 2 band SR4 (with no passive bypass however) and I notice a big difference too.

Not better or worse just different.:)

I agree both are different. I have a 3 band but I used to have a 2 band. I kind of wish I never got rid of the 2 band.
If I could compare the two the 3 band has a tighter tone, where the 2 band has a bigger/warmer tone? I can't seem to dial in that tone with my 3 band.
Maybe it's time to pony up and have the best of both worlds?

you say he did a passive bypass? is that where he made it so that you could just bypass the preamp if your battery died or you wanted that sorta sound? i've always thought that would be neat/useful. has anybody around here done it on their 'ray that could lend me some knowledge?

I did that. Both straight bypassed and with a 500k Volume and 500k Tone pot. I found the tone less than spectacular. The pickup by itself is muddy and lifeless. You can tell that the preamp was either designed to makeup for these losses, or the pup was designed to have a flat response allowing the preamp to have a greater range (most likely the later).
