Hello all - just joined up, hoping to get my first Music Man guitar soon.

I had an OLP MM4 that I sold, but am now on the hunt for a purple Silhouette with a rosewood board... basically, this. We recently lost one of our parrots, and I wanted to honor him with a guitar that matched his colors.

Looking forward to learning more about Music Man. I am a total newb with them, though I've owned guitars from the other two companies in which a certain Leo was at one point involved.

Sorry to hear about your parrot. But I'm totally onboard with the Silhouette Special! That's the guitar I wanted for the longest time. Love that colour.
 
Good call the purple Silo Special are great just make sure you get one with the EBMM bridge and not the older earlier Wilkinson bridge.

Welcome, Dallas Stars so you must be in North Texas :) Stars and Golden Knights fan here, lots of great EBMM guitars once you get one look out happened to me 20 years ago

Sorry for your parrot, can relate my avatar is my sweet beagle Bunny, passed away 13 years ago, find your self some great EBMM's and always look at the Vault and the for sale thread

Is that an example of the earlier Gotoh bridge to avoid?

Original bridge most that buy them end up replacing them from what I've seen. MM bridge is very reliable and simple.

Ah lads, come on now, that's a Wilkinson bridge. 🙂

Trevor Wilkinson is an industry legend and was making some of the best bridges available in the 1990s. We could argue that a 6 screw bridge is never quite as good as a two-post bridge but these units out performed any other 6 screw bridge.

The guitars usually came with Grover tuners. Music Man used Gotoh Floyd Rose bridges on some other MM guitar models of the era.

Thanks! I'm not incredibly picky about the differences between two-point or vintage-style bridges, but it's still good to know who makes what. Wilkinson isn't bad stuff, but I'd probably still avoid the Gotoh just because it's a Floyd-style and that's not my thing.

The Wilkinson bridges are just fine, but most would prefer either the Music Man vintage tremolo, or a hard tail bridge. Also, Gotoh makes fantastic hardware, and many get them confused with Wilkinson because Gotoh now makes all the Wilkinson licensed bridges. They also make a ton of other guitar hardware.
 
I don't hate those Wilkinson trems and it would not keep me from buying a guitar. Personally while I kind of dig the EBMM trem on the St. Vincent and JP guitars I don't have any love affair with the traditional EBMM trem and have actually replaced them before. Blasphemy I know. But anyway....there are loads of good trems and the Wilkinson is one of them
