I don't pay much attention to the "boutique" stuff, but in the new issue of BP, they review a Dingwall (dingwalls got my bay-bay!). I haven't read it yet, just browsed through, but the retail price on that Dingo was unfreakingbelievable.

Saw Victor Wooten's brother, Reggie, play an 11 string like that... good god!!!The thing had more knobs and switches than a small aircraft. He was good, but I'll never understand the need (I had trouble with my 2 sixes and sold them both for a 4 and a 5).
 
I am sure it works for whom is playing it and I am also sure he makes more money playing it.

My SR5 works for me to the same extent.


Hell, I am a lefty playing right. He gots a whole bunch I don't and that ain't no harp tuned like that.

We don't need, but we can have it, so we will. Hey, if he can afford and wants to spend the money and if that bass really truly makes him happy... Power to him. Though, it's definately not a necessity.
 
BTW - it's listed as a 'contrabass', which I believe means it's tuned an octave lower than a regular bass.

Although I suspect that by the time you get to string 576 on the mutha, you gotta be in the 'normal' register.....surely?

Sorry, horses for courses & all that but I hate the mofo and sit firmly in the Tony Levin camp (i.e. if EBMM would make ME a 3 string, I had have one!)
