Funny how the mute looks zacklee like gray foam
to a digital sensor, but it's akchewlee fuzzy black
textile and it looks quite black 'in person'.

I bought it with a black PG, but after I replaced it
the original chromed knobs were distracting from
the new PG, so I went with black knobs.

It came to me in fine shape. Added the PG, knobs,
plus a set of Cobalts, and as you put it, what's not
to love [unless you're my neighbors ... ] ?

A sterling, great find! They seem to be pretty rare, I have only owned 1 out of the dozen subs I have had. Did you ever find out how the pickup is wired in these, parallel or series.

Nobody ever answered that. And I can't guess it by
ear via comparison to my 5 other examples, cuz all
of those are fretless :-/

Complicating the question is the PU. For all I know
the SUB Sterlings might have SR PUs but combined
with the Sterling 3-band EQ-pre, to deliver a sorta
hotrod version of the SUB SR but not really a truly
full house Sterling. Aftrawl, since there's no way to
play it SC mode, there's no need for a dummy coil,
so mebbe they just used alnico SR PUs ?

I could look at the bottom of the PU ... but I won't.
Cuz I hate the hassle of getting the springs to stay
in place when re-installing a PU.

Somebody here knows ALL this stuff already, and
thaz why we're all here together, so we don't hafta
take stuff apart just to have a look-see. I will wait
and be patient, and if no one ever answers I still
won't look inside. I'll just twiddle the knobs to the
tone for any given moment and play the freakin
bjeebers outa it :-)

I'm usually into mellow, so I always said I had no
use for a fretted Sterling. I was playing in 2 outfits
with NO drummers, and now I'm playing with 4 or
5 drummers and percussionists. Go figger that !

So, am I now actually playing fretted Sterling ? Or
is it simply a poplar-bodied SR with a Sterling EQ
transplanted into it, for just a minor hotting-up ?
Does make me curious ...
