Non-Birdseye EBMM EVH's

Just a question.

On rare ocassion I have seen EBMM EVH's with absolutely no birdseye on the neck/fretboard - none, nada, zilch, zip - not a trace.

They look more similar to necks made from "hard rock" maple than "birdseye."

Are these necks a different type/cut of wood? How frequently did this occur?

Love to know the scoop. Many thanks.

A lot depends on the quality of wood, which constantly varies. EB picks the wood it thinks is best suited to be necks, tops, etc, from that lot.

A good point that was made on the factory tour is that figuring in the neck (flame, birdseye) makes it less like to be stable over time than plain maple. Accordingly, neck blanks are cut from the wood to avoid these features and hold up over time.

Here's a pic of this from the tour:

Again, it's just luck of the draw and not a feature of a paticular model's neck, etc.

Mine one of those with no Birdseye. :(

It's full on tiger striped flame maple. :D Luck of the draw baby.

I've never had any stability problems with mine at all though.

I've never seen a birdseye free EVH. Are you able to post a picture of one?

I saw it a while back and thought it was quite rare.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to purchase it at the time, so... no pics.

Wish I had been able to snag it.

Don't rub it in! My wife lost her job before the open house and I was not able to go. Oh well, there is always next time!
