hey, i use not even slinky strings for a heavy deep metal sound on my guitar, and i was recently talking to a friend of mine who was concerned that the tension required to keep the high gage strings tight would slightly bend the neck. is this possible? if so is there a way i can prevent it? i've been using these strings for at least two months and i can't see anything wrong with the neck so far

it all depends how tight u put them, this happend to me before, i recomend to tune your guitar to c# or lower. anything more will slightly bend the neck

There's a truss rod in just about every electric guitar with a wooden neck. It is used to flatten or bow the neck as needed to make the guitar playable. Lots of things can happen which will require a slight tweak of the truss rod.. switching string gauges, using different tunings, and even things like humidity changes.

I'm no expert, but I would guess that ANY strings, when tuned, cause the neck to bend to some degree. That's quite a bit of tension that those little stings create!
