Official Info on Rosewood Axis/SS

Official Info on Rosewood Axis/SS?

Are there any? The rosewood model is not mentioned on the website or the catalogue, there's no definite announcement from EBMM when they started to make it and it seems like no one knows for certain whether the rosewood is a limited run or an ongoing option for regular Axis/SS. The closest official words I'm able to find reg'ding Axis+rosewood is the one auctioned for CLB foundation, which is not exactly the same as the regular rosewood model (walnut top). I'm puzzled why rosewood gets so little publicity from EBMM. I mean rosewood neck is kinda rarity and generally it's a desirable feature, how come it gets less love than golden hardware?

Its on sale and has been for ages. Its not limited edition either...

GC seems to stock quite a few...there were 2 in the SanFran store when I was there a couple of weeks back.

Yep...still available. Great guitar and the rosewood neck is to die for.

There was actually quite a bit of advertising for this guitar. Keep in mind, EBMM is constantly putting out new ideas on us and of course, the new idea will be the talk of the month and sometimes, others get put on the back burner. When the Y2D came out....my god....talk went on for months! Not that it was a bad thing. Then the 20th Silo.....it goes on and on.

if i recall correctly someone from EBMM (Jon, I think) posted saying Rosewood is officially an option for all Axis guitars including the Super Sport. and, nope, its not a limited edition.

Phatty...I was reading this as he was talking about the Rosewood Axis......the one with rosewood top and neck.

I believe the rosewood fretboard is available on all other Axis.....

ya thats what i meant too... i meant "i think i remember hearing that 'the rosewood package' (neck, top etc) is available as an option on any axis"...

maple with buckers or MM90's?

my two are completely different, MM90's are a totally different sound to the humbuckers, more of a single coil vibe, but with more punch.

I prefer ash body to basswood so I am interested in MM90.

Now, compare to these- 20th Siho has its own banner & flyer; Y2D has a special page for it; multiple torture/info posts for Dargie Delight; Envy Green, Radiance Red, Buttercream & Golden HW all have news entries on ernieball.com when launched. Not so for Rosewood Axis. No news announcement, no mention on the website, not a thing. All of the info are scattering around this BB & burying deep in the discussion threads. Sometimes I wonder how did I find out EBMM makes guitars with rosewood neck?

Uhmmm... I'm not bitter because I took the red-headed stepchild home. I just think it makes shopping for a rosewood Axis difficult because of this lack of official info.

When I was shopping for that guitar I contacted 5 dealers. 3 of them told me rosewood is a rare/special/limited/whatever run so they wouldn't budge on the price. As a matter of fact, one of them even told me it costs more since it's an upgrade. Had I not came to this BB & saw Dargin's post, I'd had took that guy’s word since that's what PRS do for their rosewood neck... You see, I'm not complaining because the lack discussion amount the owners/fans (actually there're quite a few useful threads here). I just think with no easy access (no access?) for official info, EBMM is opening a door for some unscrupulous guys to BS their potential customers…

I gave my old Sport (MM90, maple neck & fretboard, no top nor binding) to my cousin and then got myself a rosewood SS (or is that I want the rosewood so I give the old one to my cousin?) so I haven't had a chance to A/B it. Sound wise, I don't think the rosewood top makes any noticeable impact overall. I may be able to tell the diff if I play 2 side by side but since I can't do that right now, I'd say the top is just there for the look, to me anyway.

Of course the usual "maple fretboard is brighter, more spunky; rosewood fb is darker, rounder, mellower" theory applies here. However, maybe it's the rosewood neck, I think my new SS sounds... uhm, fuller, has more definition and more "accurate" (don't ask me what "accurate" means, I don't know. I just think it sounds more "right") than other rosewood-on-maple neck. This may sound weird but I keep thinking if we are playing an instrumental opera, let's say The Marriage of Figaro, my old Sport is more suitable for Susanna or Cherubino; my new SS is more suitable for Il Contessa or Marcellina...

IMO, the most noticeable attribute of the rosewood SS is, most of all, the "feel" of the neck. It's very smooth and softer, maybe not as fast (nimble?) as maple but more comfortable. Plus, my SS has really good resonance, sounds great in clean tone or even unplugged, and I like the feel of the very mellow yet sure-footed string-body vibration a lot.

So yeah, that’s pretty much what I think after migrating from the maple Sport to rosewood SS for a little bit more than 2 weeks.
