After narrowing my choices down to the 20th Ann. Silhouette and the Luke (after eliminating the SG), I can't decide between the two. I will not be able to try either one before purchase.
Price quoted for the fully loaded Luke: matching headstock with piezo = (price removed) in either Luke blue or white
Price quoted for 20th Ann. Silhouette: matching headstock, piezo, quilt top, rosewood neck, hardtail = (price removed) (without piezo).
What do you guys think? Please help with this expensive decision.
Thanks,
Jon

Having been one of the few here that have played the 20th silo, I can tell you that it is a special guitar, its an alder body with a mahogony block down the center that makes the guitar sound as heavy as an SG tonewise, yet it has the MM neck that we all love. the finish is awesome as well. I personally cany play a luke because you cant lower the middle pup, they are screwed into the body, the silo is a dual humbucker guitar which is right up my alley, go for the silo, get a luke later on I say -

First off- probably best to remove the prices from your post - that's standard policy around here.

I think they're totally different guitars, and it depends what you want. The necks are quite different (with the Luke feeling smaller in your hands) and the pickup configurations are different.

Do you care if you have HH vs SSH? HH gives you a great thick neck humbucker sound but no strat-like 'quack'. With SSH you can get some real good quack going on and a great bluesy single coil neck sound.

If that doesn't matter to you, one way or the other, then I agree with the suggestion of the 20th Edition Silo. There will be fewer of them made - it's really a work of art - and it will likely have a higher resale value down the road. It's also unique which appeals to me.

In your case I'd have to agree w/ getting the anniv. SLO since you can't test out the two.

darchirnoj, I'd have to agree with the others. If you are thinking about the 20th Ann Silo, get that first. Then save up and get yourself a Luke. :)

Good luck with your desicion. Glenn |B)

Thanks

Thank you guys for all of the responses. I would like to apologize to Scott re: posting of prices as I didn't realize this was against board policy. I would have never knowingly done so. Scott, I tried leaving you a message, but that nursing home I work at has wierd walls; my cell phone always cuts off.
One thing I've realized is what an enormous amount of time I've spent looking for that one guitar, that one guitar that doesn't exist and will never exist. Instead of GASing, which by the looks of things is absolutely never ending, I'd rather be playing guitar with whatever guitar.
Again, thanks for all the replies and help.

20th Ann Silo all the way.

But if you don't order it now, you're gonna be SOL. People were going MAD for it at the NAMM show, I tell ya, MAD!!!

Lukes in white will always be available.

20th anniv SiLO!
I got to play the prototype and told Dudley, "This gutar feels like an old friend already!" I wasn't at the NAMM show but I have been MAD for this guitar for more than 2 years now.
Piezo trem and figure top me with 24 frets on a maple board.

Thanks again.

One thing I will say, this is an extremely helpful and courteous board; definitely one of the nicer boards I've visited. Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
Ultimately, I went a completely different way and made a purchase today for a USA Custom Schecter. Here are the specs:
Bolt-On 2pc. Solid Koa Body
Pau Ferro neck with birdseye maple board/Pau Ferro dot inlays
25 &1/2"
6110 Dunlop
12" Radius
traditional large headstock
Cream Micarta Nut
Standard thin U neck profile
Sperzels
gold hardware
gotoh hard-tail bridge
Duncan SH-1 neck/SH-4 bridge
Cream 1-ply pickguard
master volume/master tone (Push/pull pot to tap bridge p/u)

Again, thanks for all your help and keep rockin'.

Isn't this where we turn into a hateful, discourteous and flame-filled board? LOL

I agree. The dude didn't even mention a Schecter. I guess that's the only one he could try out and went with it. Care to explain?

Wow, lots of responses.

Please understand, I mean absolutely no disrepect to EBMM or this board. There were several things that swayed me. The guitar I purchased I had seen months ago (this past summer) on the web and fell in love with the looks and the specs. At the time, I didn't have money to purchase it outright (hate to use credit cards and would rather pay for the thing). Fast forward to today. Well, I'm a dietitian and recently was very busy with a lot of contract work, which equates to addition "fun funds". I would have purchased the Luke (based on reviews of it's versatility) until I saw the 20th. Ann. Silo. Man, that guitar looks so good, and maybe for me, too good to play. Something that expensive and collector, I mean, I don't know if I would trust myself (you should see the way I baby my Acura TL).
After playing my cousin's SG Standard, I threw that into the mix, leading me to consider the 61' Reissue, until I played one the other day ( sounds great, poor quality control), so killed that idea.
So I'm surfing the web last night, wondering why I can't post prices on this board, unless every distributor charges diff. prices and lo and behold, there's the Schecter. With the Schecter, I have a few days to try it out and send it back for full refund. With the 20th., I was told that was not possible being custom order.
And there you have it. Let's put it this way, if I don't like it, I'll send it back , BUT I'm buying the Luke! I would love the 20th., but to play? It's just too nice.

I've never understood this type of reasoning, it's too nice to own? Too nice to play? Sure you have to be careful with any guitar you own. I hope the Shecter receives just as much care as the 20th would have. I also would bet the Shecter Forum (is there one?) wouldn't have the bosses son giving you his direct line to help you out. I guess the customer service that EB provides is just too nice as well? Stick around with forum though we need more people to pick on Foggy ;)
