Just a quick review of the Carbon Blue Piezo Luke I picked up at the open house.

When Pete said it was in shipping I couldn't believe it. 6 weeks from order date.

Beth moved heaven and earth to get the paperwork done so I could pick it up after the sterling/dudley eb history/prototype seminar.

This is Luke #4 for me. (2nd with piezo)

When I opened the box and looked at it, the first thing I noticed was No compensated nut. This after all the necks we saw in the factory had one so I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. The neck also had a small dark spot about 1/4 inch long but real skinny.

Hmmmn, what to do? I asked a few forum folks. some said return it, others said if it feels good keep it.

So I played it and immediately fell in love with the feel. Feels like my favorite Luke that Jon pimped back in Feb for me.

At that point I didn't wanna risk asking them for a neck with a compensated nut. If they'd even have done that for me...too big a risk getting a neck that didn't feel as good. Played it through the little micro cubes back at the hotel and loved the way it sounded

I've been playing it yesterday and today thru my regular rig and I gotta say it sounds even better than my favorite sounding Luke (the vin sun piezo).

Basically, I think I hit the tonal/feel jackpot! Just icing on an already humongous cake that Sterling, Dudley and everyone else at EB fed us all weekend long!

Thanks to all the EB crew that had a hand in making it.
 
if you want to do some digging, one of the pages of the 15 million photos from this weekend have him playing it in the parking lot of the factory.

Of course, we have to see Keith in the picture, too. :D
 
HA! I was in the "Keith, you should keep it" camp. I'm glad that you are in love with the tone. If it went back, the guitar would have probably changed tonaly. Good decision, Keith!
 
The neck on that guitar was one of THE BEST necks I have ever felt from EB. I'm glad you kept it, Keith :D


BTW, Keith - you know the rules!

I looked up the order date for that guitar, and it was ordered on 8/2. 6 weeks was super fast, maybe that means the y2ds will be ready soon :eek:

Keith, glad to hear that you don't regret your decision to keep it. I was with everyone else, it doesn't the guitar any, think of it as a birth mark. Hahahahahaha

Congrats, glad that Pete and EBMM could work it out for you to take it home then.

Ernie doesn't know this, but for some reason (maybe because he has collected so many) his opinion was the one that seemed to matter most. And I actually though he was going to be in the other camp.

Now after playing it for hours, I almost feel foolish for being on the fence about it. Before I asked others opinions, I had even flagged down Aziah about who to talk to. She said probably Dudley, but I never brought it up to any other EB employee.

And another great thing about this guitar is that because the piezo bridge lies flat, it readily acclimated to using alternate tunings. And I didn't even add springs or tighten the claw.

On the other hand, at the Friday jam, I picked up that pretty vin sun luke with the floating trem and was going to play a tune in OPEN G (DGDGBD) low to high and I could NOT get that thing to stick and I was tuning it for like 5 minutes and they're calling me on stage, so now I'm trying to get it back in standard and switching to PLAN B which was the tune I ended up playing called SACRED STRINGS.

And thanks to Tommy who was there to help find a good clean tone on equipment I had never played through (I missed having delay though).
 
Everyone....I cannot express my gratitude towards my buddy Keith. He is a great friend and it was great to hang out with him again! Buddy, this was a moving event for me in more ways than one and you would know more about that than anyone. Thanks for being there to pick me up....thanks for getting 3 hours sleep and taking me and Glen to the airport......thanks for playing "Dreamin'" and "Sacred Strings" to a captive audience of one (me), and for sharing your song at the forum jam. Words cannot describe your kindness and your genuine love of music. Thanks especially from Trish, who was glad I got to see you again, and for keeping me out of trouble! LOL.....

But they all don't talk when you're playing guitar at your mother's memorial service.

Ain't no forgiving for that.
