Hi there,

a colleque drove me crazy today, because he ment my MM5 is a fake :-(. I don't think so, but in deed i'm not that shure. I removed neck and pickguard to check, but what do I need to check ? What will be the indicators for an original Stingray made in 99 ?

By the way: I made some pics of it, so I can show some details.

The Serial Number is on a plate on the back of the Bass. It is E07241. But, this plate is easy to use on a fake, it just have to be screwed on a garbage Bass....

Build dates are stamped on the butt end of the neck and in the neck pocket.
 
Did he tell you it was a fake, then offer to buy it from you for cheap ? :rolleyes:

Do the tuners have 'Music Man' stamped into them (on the plate that attaches to the headstock)?

Does it have the correct pickguard? Unscrews the pickguard and look at the preamp.

A few good pics should tell the story

Yeah, but they can tell you what color, fretboard option, and pickguard combo that serial number is supposed to have. It's either going to match your bass, or it's not.
 
Does it play great and feel great? If so it is your bass and enjoy it. Probably wouldn't do either if it weren't real.

Yess, sir, it has, and it's working smoothly :-).

When I played the bass first time at the dealers store the neck was curved backwards, so I had to adjust it. Now it's perfect !

The white thing on the back of the neck? That's called a shim, it's there to get the angle of the neck in relation to the body correct. Leave it alone. Trust me it's there for a reason and a complete b***h to get back into the right spot if you didn't mark it. Also if it's in the wrong place it will screw up your action pretty bad. I did that on one of my basses, took me a whole day to get that figured out, or maybe I'm just an idiot and didn't know what I was doing.....
 
The white one is not a factory shim. The pink one by the screwdiver is. Your bass is the real deal.
