OT: Crikey!

I thought 'rays were mellow and had to be provoked to get them to strike.

I work in the media, and it makes me sick when these types of media releases come thru. Very sad as I have met the man and he was the real deal.

Apparently it was a real freak of an accident. The barb actually punctured his lung... which alleged experts have never heard of... so pretty freaky

I believe only 3 people have ever died in Australia from a stingray. If it was any other part of his body he'd be still alive. So very sad.

i know i sound like a sap but i cried when i heard about it, im still crying now. my friends were very close to them and theyd tell us how wonderful the family was. bindi is the sweetest kid you could ever know. australia zoo is about half an hour from where i live and i know the sunshine coast will be in mourning for a while.

My thoughts will be with his family - it's such a shame, because as others have said he did so much good work and was such a decent bloke.

Ironic that cause of death is reportedly a Sting Ray and it's being discussed here....
but aside form my macabre sense of whatever right now, prayers definitely go out to his young family. From what the TV showed, he seemed like a real decent guy.

It shouldn't be surprising, but I'm kind of speechless... wow.

That's really sad for his family.

That's such a shame. He made nature programs so interesting, and his obvious enthusiasm for what he did was amazing.

He brought new life to nature on TV, he'll be missed :(
