For all you RHCP fans, I heard this morning on a radio talk show that Tom Petty is not going to file a lawsuit against RHCP for Danny California. He said he didn't believe there was any negative intention with the song, and that he doesn't really believe in lawsuits.

Thank you. That is all.

Cool on Petty's part:D

Good call. It's not worth a lawsuit, though the similarities are quite striking. I don't imagine the RHCP intentionally set out to copy Mary Jane's Last Dance, but that was a Petty song my old band used to cover, and I found I had no problem remembering the chords when listening to Dani California.

I figure I just learned another song without having to practice, so it's all good. :)

Wonder if Tom Petty will avoid trouble over "Saving Grace"?

What does that song sound like to you?

tk

Stadium Arcadium is definitely my new favorite album, every song on there has a least enough merit to make it really good, highly recommended on my part

Both songs remind me of Purple Haze so I didn't understand what the fuss was about.

Dani Californai has one of the oldest chord progressions in the book.

I was playing it when I was setting up my rig at my last gig, the drummer starting singing Sweet Home Alabama over the top!

Well, John Frusciante actually says in an interview that he is deliberately quoting Hendrix in some spots of the song, still a good one IMO

Yes. He is quite a Hendrix fan. I guess Petty is too. ;)
