I picked up a Stingray 5 piezo fretless off ebay, and it's absolutely amazing tonewise. I have a bongo 5 fretted already, so I'm pretty hooked on the Musicman quality and tone :)

But this new stingray has a little boo-boo... The paint/finish is coming off down in the neck pocket! In the area your fingering hand slides into when you're playing up high, between the neck and the lower horn. I tried a little superglue, didn't stick to the paint side. It's weird, the finish is just hanging there in a big flap. If it was anywhere else, it would have been snagged and ripped off by now.

Any ideas?

You'll probably get some better tips, but here goes (if you want to fix it yourself):
Go to a car painter, bring the bas and ask for a tiny amount of 2K clear coat (right when they mix it to spray, they can easily take a small amount out), and using a plastic tooth pick or similar you get the clearcoat in between wood and paint. Tape paint flap down hard and wait for a day. That should get it stuck back on, and when you remove the tape you can remove any eccess clear coat with rubbing and then buffing.
Epoxy could also be used, but that is hard work when the repair looks like yours...

Sorry, I have no ideas to help you, but I have a question.

Is this a common thing with the paint?

I had it happen on a gold metallic Stingray in the same area a few years ago. I put some superglue in there and it seemed to stabilize it a bit, then I sold it off (full disclosure to the buyer of course).
