Hey folks, got a wonderful LE Sterling today and when I removed the Soft Clear Plastic
SKU sheet off the back I've noticed the Paint is flat black where that was, doesn't look good at all, Maybe Sterling or someone can Help me out with why on black this has happened and not the other colors.
Any Advise on a fix?? Thanks DJ

Dave, are you sure the apparent "flatness" is not just glue residue from the sticker? If so, a little bit of polish or methylated spirit on a soft cloth will remove it.

Hey Mark, no whats weird about this is those soft plastic stick ons have no residue at all, you can remove it and apply it to another part of the bass and it goes on like it was new,
it feels a bit rubbery.
They come on all Music man basses and up til this black one they left nothing, but something in it has dulled the finish, I've tried normal guitar polishes and it's there to stay, drag because it's very noticeable.
 
Ugh that's a bummer. That sticker doesn't have any glue on it...wonder if it was put on too soon like before the paint had cured?
 
Dave, I had the same thing happen on my 30th Anniv, but not on any other basses. Maybe it has to do with heat or humidity at the time it's applied, or something like that.

I used a very small amount of acetone/fingernail polish remover on a cotton ball and it came right off. The finish was nice and shiny, no issue from using the acetone.

I posted a similar thread when I got my 30th, and I'm pretty sure it was Jon that said acetone was OK.

I understand if you wait until Jon or someone confirms what's best to use, I know I did!

Yeah, tell me about it! That's why I used just a teeny, tiny bit on the cotton ball. Wiped it off right away and the 'haze' was gone.

Ok Thanks for all you guys help, Brought back some memories, I tried a Product called Bestine, something I've used before on simular situations. Just tried it and it worked perfect. Bestine will not harm the finish. SO Thanks Guys it's fixed.
 
Excellent post Dave because Peter Romano had the same thing happen on the LE I just shipped him...will post a link to this thread over on Pit.

I think he meant from licking the sticker:D However, if he got it from Dude:confused: I've seen him orally stimulating many a bass... or is it the other way around?:eek:
 
I had the same thing happen on my 30th. I had kept the cling sticker on until yesterday, and when I removed it...ACK! The same residue. Water wouldn't remove it (nor spit). Called EB Customer Service, and they recommended denatured alcohol. I remembered this thread, and with great trepidation, tried nail polish remover...Worked very quickly, and now instead of sticker residue, I have a classic unfinished area in the back of the bass...

Just kidding!

Seriously, it worked fine, and just for good measure, wiped with a damp cloth and then a dry one to remove any remaining acetone essence. Ahhh...my bass is back to cosmetic perfection.
