Perfered Gages

I've noted a lot of players have been opting for heavier gages ie; Kenny Wayne Shepherd, SRV, and Muddy Waters. So I'd like to hear your prefrences and why.

I primarily string my James Burton standard Tele up with 10-13-15-26-32-38 but will occasionaly go with 9-10-12-24-32-38.

Before any one blows a gasket I will have to admit I stick pretty close to my country blues roots, so theres not a lot of power chording going on.

After 20 years.....

I just switched from 9 - 42 to 10-46.
I love it just enough to give it a little more "backbone"

I have 2 string sets I love.
Ernie Ball 130 100 80 65 (tuned like five string without highest)
and
85 70 55 35 (not produced by Ernie Ball)
The first for my Yamaha BBG4A when I need deep tones, the second for my self build Fretless for funky slap sound.
I Play both in my Rock/Metal Band

I don`t like Ernie Ball Guitar strings... I don't know the reason... There is a feeling that just says no

I prefer Dean Markley 8-38 because I play guitar just 4-5 times a month and its easier with them

Power Slinkys

What's shakin?

I'd have to say that the gauge you use is best determined by the scale length of your guitar. In my shorter scale Gibsons I use only 11-48 Power Slinkys. However, in the studio I sub the 6th string for a .50 just to give it a little more bottom crunch.

In the longer scale guitars, like Fenders...I'd recommend 9's or 10's.
