I recently bought an iPod (yep, kicking and screaming into the digital world) and converted all my R.E.M albums onto it...

I've never noticed before, but Peter Buck has some of the most varied and consistently brilliant guitar tones I've ever heard! I don't think he's ever put out a bad sound and his playing is really diverse. Any R.E.M fans here?

Went and saw them on the Monster tour and they were great (and surprisingly very loud!).

I only say because I reckon he's pretty underappreciated in guitar circles and almost certainly overshadowed by the band's hits.

I liked Peter Buck until I thought he came off as somewhat self-righteous in an interview I read somewhere. I've been turned off ever since. Not saying that he is actually self-righteous. It was just my interpretation. I haven't been into them since "Green." But, man, I really, really loved "Life's Rich Pageant."

Yeah, I'd heard that of him, too. It's a shame when you see people you admire make complete tits of themselves. I'm equally distressed every time Billy Corgan opens his mouth!
