This is ******* unbelievable, I ordered a petrucci matching headstock, pearl redburst, inlays, piezo 6 string 8 months ago. Today I went to the guitar store from where I ordered it. The guy from the store kind of stumbled; uhhh well we've got your guitar, it came in yesterday, matching headstock, pearl redburst, inlays, piezo, but there's one crucial thing that's wrong with it: it has 7 strings
I ordered a 6 string goddamnit. Now what should I do; keep the 7 string (I can get it for the same price as the 6 string), or wait another 6 months for a 6 string. (I never played a 7 string before)

help me out here cheers

oh man, THAT is a bummer. i say that if your paying the same, wait it out. This is your dream guitar and it should be exactly the way you want it. take it like a man

Man, something fishy here.

If I had to guess...it was the store's fault as they order with a series of numbers (like a social security) in a 000-00-00 format, I believe.

These numbers tell model, color and options, so chances are they screwed up and put the numbers for the jp7 string instead of the 6.

I'd try and see if EB could bang one out under the circumstances. But what I wouldn't do is accept a 7 if you WANT a 6.

If the store is a chain, you could also ask them to check their inventory to see if another store has it and can ship it, but you should ask for a much better deal if you go that route.
I'd be bummed :(
Hope things work out

well i do get it for the same price, normally the 7 string version costs 350 euros more, so I do get it with a 350 euros discount. But does a 7 string fit me? will I be able to play as fast on it like on my 6 strings (with such a big neck)? I have no experience with it at all. How's a transition from 6 to 7 strings? What are the pres and what are the cons?

''If the store is a chain, you could also ask them to check their inventory to see if another store has it and can ship it''

they already did that, no other store has it, they contacted music man about that.
Someone at the distributor or import company somehow screwed the serial number up.

Santy....I can answer that one easily....I have a couple JP-6's and recently bought a JP-7 (the one in my avatar). I never played a 7 either...but I had an obsession with the Blue Dawn color and this is the one I found being sold by a private seller. So, I said, why not? I could try it and if I really don't like it, I'll sell. Well, I like it. It does take some getting used to. The fretboard is obviously wider to accomodate the 7th string. However, once I got used to the fretboard, it was business as usual. In fact, I play my 7 as much as my 6 stringers! I find the 7 string to be easier for me to play.....which sounds strange, but for me, that is the case. I (in my vain attempt) can play fast scale runs and solos as easily as my 6 stringers.

Now, with that said.....I agree with Kbaim on this one. The dealer who ordered it for you messed up. I seriously doubt EBMM goofed. I would have the store give you a 30 day trial at no cost to you. Meaning, you get to take it home for 30 days and see if the guitar "fits" you or not. If not, you can bring it back and have them order you the right one and discount that because now you will have waited over a year for your guitar that should have been ordered right to begin with!! I am very picky, so I would want to make sure being that it was YOUR hard earned money that was spent here. They (the store) owe you that at the very least. 350 euro discount doesn't mean anything if you will not play the guitar and are absolutely not happy with it. It will do you no good to have it sit collecting dust because you are not happy! If they DO NOT agree to that....simply tell them to take the 7 string and place it in a bodily orifice and either order you the right one or get your euros back and go elsewhere if possible. I really hope this works out for ya....the 7 strings are great guitars, but if you don't like it, you should not take it. Let us know how things go with you on this......and you can probably call customer service and ask them about the order. They should be able to verify what the purchase order ticket said....that would help in your arguement with the dealer.

my last suggestions

talk to the owner ..
can he order you the 6 jp and you wait
while you take home the 7 to use it ...
meanwhile you wait ...

thanks for the replies!

The store didnt make the mistake, someone else did, I was there when he ordered it and I've still got the receit (which says 6 string) I'm 100% certain that they didnt screw it up (I don't think EB screwed it up either, maybe the company who shipped it???).

Have you had any experience with a seven stringer. I've played a ton of them and the first thing I noticed when I got my JP7 was how "unseven" it felt. The neck is wide but it felt like a wide six. Six or seven is purely a personal choice but I'd try out the seven and see if you like it. I'm sure they'd let you take for a couple hours of test drive, at least! :D

if you dont have experience with a 7 string, i would say stick with the 6 string so you know you're getting what you want, why dont you go and try out a 7 string at a guitar shop and see how you like it?
