Hey all, first post! Got my custom-ordered Petrucci back in April. It's a Pearl Redburst 6, no Piezo, dots, natural head-stock.

I have only changed the strings once. I put EB .010s on it so I made no adjustments at all to the guitar since I've owned it.

What is your action height at the 12th fret? 24th?

Mine is 1/16th at the 12th fret. It came from EB at this height. I haven't measured the 24th but I will.

Is that what you all have? I'd prefer it a little lower but I'm afraid it'll start buzzing all over.

Also, anyone running .009s on these guitars?

Thanks.

Hey Dave,
Welcome to the forum! It's about time you found your way over here from the Petrucci forum. ;) There's a great bunch of guys here, friendly as hell and very knowledgeable.

Nice pics by the way...

I'll have to check the specs on mine tonight. I know there have been a few guys who changed over to 9's. I think there were a few minor adjustments to make. I'm sure they'll step up and let you know.

Anyhow, welcome aboard!

Thanks Fred! I'd also like to know if the height is the same on the high E as it is on the Low E.

Thanks again.

Dave

PS

I didn't even know there was an EBMM Forum!!

Dave,
I'll check both and let you know tomorrow.

I found out about this forum around the time I ordered my Petrucci. Like I said it's a great group of people and there are a few that hang out at the Petrucci site too, OrangeChannel is one that I see all the time at both places.

Just be careful what you ask or wish for, I innocently asked about an Axis in Blue Dawn that I had been thinking about, and Norm clued me in about an hour later that he knew where one was. So of course I had to go out and get it then. :D

If you have any technical questions you'll most likely get a response from a couple of the guys who work at EB and are most helpful, jongitarz goes out of his way to help out the users on the forum.

talk to you soon,
fred

Oh no! I'm looking for an Axis or another Petrucci myself! I'd better not ask.

Question: I've had a Petrucci model for about a month, and just decided to change the strings the other day. I put d'addario 9's on it, because I thought that's what came on it. Now I've got a few problems, but I haven't adjusted anything yet. Just some minor string buzzing and muffled notes. Did this guitar come with 10's originally? That's the impression I'm starting to get.

Well, I changed back to 10's. Problem solved. Back to how it was when I bought it. I even asked the salesman "What gauge are these, they feel like 10's..." and he said "Nah, I think they're 9's." I thought most guitars came with 9's anyway. Well, I guess it would help to know this beforehand.

Hey Cud, how's the Mk IV treating you? :)

I love it. I'm eyeing a Mk IV head to use with a cab so I may be selling my combo. We'll see. I'd love a Mk III as well.

I used to use hybrid slinkys, 9-46. I really didn't like the way the piezo sounded and I couldn't set it up the right way. Put 10's on, no problems since!

Welcome to the forum Cud!! Nice to see another JP forum crossover.

Ok, so how some of you kids get back to me with action heights?

I have 1/16" (or 4/64") at the 12th fret on the Low E and a little higher than that (about the width of a high E string) at the 12th fret on the High E. This was how the guitar was delivered to me and to tell you the truth, the action on the High E and B strings seems a little high for me.

Thanks.

My action is about 1/16" on the low E, a little more than that at the 24th fret (3/32?). On the high E, it is a little less than 1/16" at the 12th fret, and exactly 1/16" at the 24th fret. Most all of my guitars have this action height. My PRS Custum 22 is exactly 1/16" all the way around.
