pickup height adjustment...a little hazy on the details

i read the factory settings and it says 4mm should be the distance from the pole pieces and the strings, correct?

so does that mean i should adjust the saddles to a good action height and then adjust the pickup accordingly and then maybe make fine adjustments to the saddles so that the outer strings are lower than the inner two?

i'm asking because i bought some threadlocker...my pickups keep lifting everytime i play. what's up with that? do other people have this problem too?
