I recently picked up a hardtail EVH. One thing that I've noticed about it is that, compared to the Floyd-equipped EVH, the bridge pickup is much closer to the strings. Even though the saddles sit pretty high, such that the action is a bit higher than it is on the Floyd guitar, the pickup is still very close.

This is a problem for two reasons - one, it doesn't leave much room for picking around that area, and two, there is a huge volume/output difference when switching between pickups. Depending on the amp and its settings, it's almost enough for a clean-to-dirty switch just by switching pickups!

I haven't actually gone in and measured pickup cavity depth and whatnot yet, but is this normal? Is there anything that can be done about it. To me, the placement of the pickups on the Floyd EVH is ideal, so I just want the hardtail to mimic that setup in every possible way....

Forgot, one more question - I loosened the truss rod a bit (1/4-turn or so) to put a touch of relief into the neck. The problem is, the truss rod wheel feels way too loose, barely any resistance at all. Can anything be done about that?
