Hi all

My 2004 Stingray 4 has a problem with the pickup output - there's a noticeable difference between the volume of the two middle strings compared to the top and bottom strings, which are a bit quieter - has anybody else experienced this?

One thing i must mention is that i put in a new battery while the bass was plugged in (muted, not paying attention), which created a mad techno-like fuzz noise through the amp which, after turning everything off, thankfully subsided

Any insight here would be appreciated

Perhaps a silly question, but I have found one should never assume. Have you first checked that your strings are all equidistant to their relative pole pieces on the pickup? I know the poles on the A and D strings stick out further than those for the E and G strings, in order to allow for the slight contour you typically have with respect to string heights. The reason I ask is I have read previous threads where people have not realised this is the case, and have set up their basses so the strings are all parallel to one another and yet still wonder why the E and G strings sound quieter when played (when it is because the outer 2 strings have been set up further away from their respective pickup pole pieces compared to the inner 2 strings).

Did the pickup problem exist before you put the new battery in???
 
First off how many times do I ask that this forum not be used as customer service? If people keep doing this Ill just close customer service and the results wont be as good. If you have a problem with your EBMM product contact customer service . If we dont make you happy then fire away here. What happens is that one guys posts output issues, probably blew his ic chip and a hundred guys who didnt imagine a output problem
 
Thanks to all who responded to my pickup output 'problem' which has now been solved thanks especially to LowDownDave (not a silly question at all!)

these Stingrays are new to me and i kind of expected to be able to adjust the pole pieces from underneath maybe and keep the strings level which suits my playing style - anyhow, all is now good

I'm gonna ignore the fuzzy noise/battery issue and hope that nothing comes of it - and of course pay attention in future

We we're hopping you'd call Customer Service, because like the Magtag Guy, He's probably bored to death. Cause it's very rare these basses go down.

In all fairness he was sent to this forum from advice on another forum. I woulda done the same thing when I was new. :)

I see what BP is saying don't get me wrong. I just also see the help abunch of folks I know to be the EB forum brothers and sisters that I love offer.

We all try to help when we can. Sometimes that help may not be the best advice for the newbie.

I can find the number, but I have been around a long time and haven't ever had to call customer service. Means I don't know the number at the moment.

Never have had an issue with a MM bass that I didn't know was my fault.

We as forum members should learn to advise new prospective members and fellow MM users to call customer service.

I know what my advice will be to someone now. Well as soon as I look up the customer service number any way.

The reason I am playing MM is because I have the resources available to keep me enthused about the great bass that I own.

Pretty much I have found that on this forum.

I am sorry EB customer service guys whomever you are. I know I would get help if I needed it. I haven't needed it.

I may have advised a newbie wrong more that once.

I don't play 4 strings so I can't be expected to know everything a real man knows. :)
