Hi,

I realized my 89 ray lacks of volumen and punch, I taped pickup poles with a screwdriver the north coil poles makes a strong noise but the south coil poles only a tiny click, reading pickup resistance is 3,9k ohms, I guess something is wrong with south coil, any suggestion?

Thanks.

You have two coils (as you said: north and south). Really sounds you lost your south coil.
I think one coil is about 4k ohm and both a wired parallel - so about 2k ohm is right.
You can desolder the passive pickup and meassure each coil again.

I desoldered and the north coil measure 3,9k ohm but the south makes no resistance, so unfortunately I will need a replacement pickup.

Somethimes pickups can be fixed or rewinded so a replacement might not be neccesary if you have a good repair shop near you

Yes, I think is the best option too, having the other coil working as a reference, coil rewinding seems easy and affordable. Thanks.

One coil has gone open circuit.

Email Customer Service for advice on replacement :

You purchase a new one and return your old one in exchange.

It will save a lot of headaches. Clean and simple without paying mega Dollars elsewhere!

Thanks, But I prefer to repair the old pickup for $40 and surely having the same tone as before.
