Piezo question (I need all the help I can get)

So I felt like the piezos were pushing my cab a bit harder than was good, so I took the plate of the back to look at the balance and level controls.

I looked at the online diagram and it showed these pots as in a StingRay 5. Looked like this:

O OOOOO
(level) (string balance)

So Im surprised when looing at the pots in my 4 string because I expect to see:

O OOOO
(level) (string balance)


However, I see whats diagramed for the SR5, 5 string balance pots, and a level pot. Should my bass only have 4 string balance pots? Since there a 6 total, including the master level, I dont know which one is "extra" and/or non functional.


I called CS, and Aziah, did a great job trying to help me, but she still wasnt 100% sure what the deal was.

Whats the deal? Did I miss something?

I'm probably not pushing quite as hard as you, but with my SR5s, my starting assumption has always been that the piezo was properly setup (output & balance) at the factory, and there's nobody in my neighbourhood qualified to second guess that;

from there, I question whether or not my amp and cabs are up to the SR5/piezo job

That's what I figured; in which case, the worst you can do is get warranty on the cab when it flies apart under the pressure of genuine SR/piezo tones

Yeah, I understand your point, but Andrew (Dr. Stankface) was here and can note that my Bergantino was getting hit pretty hard, and its a powerful cab.

Sorry, not meant to distract from your main question;

[I get so excited about anything piezo;
maybe I probably need to do more background research on what amp and cab combinations are best suited to my MM/piezos for my applications ]

Travis, I just popped the back of my Fretless 4, and I have the same deal that you are seeing. When I first got the bass I adjusted the piezos to be louder. Since I didn't know what the extra pot was, I just tweaked until it sounded like I wanted it too.

hmmm is it possible to use process of elimination to at least figure out which pots correspond to which strings? I'm saying... set mag/piezo balance to piezo 100%, eq flat (just in case), and start tweakin, with all the pots for the piezos set to their zeros, and adjust each individually.
