Your Bongo thread got closed before I had a chance to comment. Here's my input. I'm very much a vintage/retro/classic type of guy when it comes to instruments, and like you I was perturbed by the Bongo's styling for quite some time. But, after reading review after review after review by people who I know speak the truth about this type of thing, my curiosity got the better of me. Once I played my Bongo I was hooked. It's got a huge sound, is very versatile, has a great neck and is a quality instrument. I forgot about the looks straight away, however with a new pickguard I must say my Bongo's styling is growing on me. I've got quite a few basses, and my Musicmans get gigged around 50% of the time. The Bongo is rapidly competing with my Stingray as the Musicman bass I pick up first when packing the van for a gig.

Thanks for your reply. I hope that i didn't upset anyone w/ eb or anyone else for that matter. I did enjoy the sound and the playability of the bass. I guess i'm an traditionalist. Thats sounds bad being that i'm only 29

What possible traditions do you feel you are aware of at 29?

Live and learn is the rule until you are 209. You get there you should have senority and be allowed to set standards. Of course when you get there I will be 249 and I will then have senority should I be able to reply to one of your posts.

Didn't really mean to rain on anyone's parade but I've been playing Bongos for over a year now. At first, the comments rolled off my back, then it got old, then we had about a zillion threads about it, and while I do appreciate that the look is not for everyone, I just didn't think we needed ANOTHER "dang those are ugly" thread.

No offense intended, but we HAVE had a lot of those.

I remember when I first heard of the Bongo. Did a google search and wound up at www. bovinehost.com. Loved the Bongos looks from the first glance and still do. It doesnt hurt that my Bongo 5 is my favorite bass Ive ever owned.

about 3 1/2 hours

it takes about 3 1/2 hours to get to Columbus from Cartersville. If you're talking about Columbus Ohio, thats gonna take you a lil longer.

Opinions are just that - opinions. I was looking at some pics of some high end basses yesterday in another forum that some people were just drooling over and I just didn't like them at all. So I didn't post on that thread and I certainly didn't start a new thread to bash them. There are a lot of radically designed basses out there that people seem to like but I don't think that it's my duty to tell them that I think it looks like s**t.

Some young kid over on TB was looking at a "Killer" brand bass, some Japanese thing with pointy ends and angles and all BCRich. And he asked for opinions, and all I said was, "I have bad news. The 80s are over."

Wow, I was roundly criticized. Good thing they don't all sit around with me in real life. I'm much more mouthy about such things.

Asking for opinions opens up the opportunity to express said opinion. There is a difference between "solicited" and "unsolicited."

I saw that one and you were right. The 80s are over. But you didn't start a thread about what a piece of crap those basses are.
