Pre-EB Neck Finish

I have a 1977 Stingray that I am restoring. Currently the neck does not have any finish on it at all, but I would like to return the finish to the original type finish. So, did the early pre-EB Stingrays have a lacquer finish on the neck, or were they oiled like the newer EB basses? Obviously the headstock was lacquered - but what about the neck and fretboard? Thanks!

One more thing... The body is "walnut" color (a.k.a. "rootbeer"). It has an aftermarket white pearloid pickguard but Im pretty sure that it originally had a black pickguard and I want to go back with an original style pickguard. Were the original black pre-EB pickguards a three layer pickguard (blk/wht/blk)?
