Yeah, I saw that. £1500 wouldn't be too bad if it was in good condition.

I've seen a guy trying to sell a nice '78 ray for £1250 about 3 times with no bites.

For an original 76 with radio knobs in pristine condition (which this bass is not) I'd pay £1500. Or at least I'd pay that if my financial situation improved rapidly! It'd have to be a good player. Same goes for the 78 at £1250.

I wouldn't buy them from unplayed from ebay though... clearly it's difficult to get rid of them if they're less than great.

Mind you, it wouldn't be too tricky to restore this bass.

Don't know if it makes any difference, but it's owned by Peter Barton, who was originally in The Move and now plays in The Animals. He's also the guy who sang "Moldy Old Dough" as Lieutenant Pigeon... but the less said about that, the better.

Holy s*&t... the Move? I haven't thought (or heard) about them in years. I recall the bass lines were pretty cool... how the heck did you know that??

I read the auction and saw that he'd played the bass on several "sessions". There was also a link to The Animals website. Did a search on the name it says to make cheques payable to and, lo and behold...

He was the bassist in the Move, in their last incarnation, and he was drafted into The Animals who reformed in 1992, as Chas Chandler had passed away. Apparently.

It may all be an elaborate ruse.

Wow. The last album I had by the Move had Jeff Lynne in the band... I am old, ain't I? By the way.... one of my all time favorite bands is Scottish. Have you ever heard of the Bay City Rollers? Just kiddin'! :p It's the Cocteau Twins... you a fan? Most under-rated band of the '80s....

Yup, I've got a few of their recordings. Pearly Dewdrop's Drops is an amazing tune. No idea what it's about or what the singer is singing... something about a lucky lucky panty bicycle (?????? )

I first listened to them after a band I played in briefly was compared to them in a review in a local music magazine.

Yeah, I don't think the singer sings in a real language. However, I have interpreted a phrase from one song, "summer saliva, sounds so shi**y, yeah...". And I thought it was just the brogue!

Seriously, I am still quite the Twins freak... saw all the US tours (even after the 2nd record). I'ld love to hear your old band... any links?

My band is still very influenced by them...

There used to be a website with a few MP3s on it, but it seems to have long since disappeared. I have a few recordings (sadly, not including me... I basically only depped for one gig) though that I could convert once I've figured out how. I'm not sure of the comparison myself.

I absolutely love Sunburst and Snowblind (their second record). Garlands and Treasure are also great, not to mention the early EPs...

The Bass player now owns his own label, Bella Union. Steve and BassThing: you should check out a band (on that label), Trespassers William.... great band- the singer is phenomenal...

Glad to hear there are other Twin's fans out there!

Steve, I think you are right about the name.... (Simple Minds were also Scottish, right?) in an interview, the Cocteau Twins said that the name came from a play by John Cocteau, were a set of twins eat balls of posion and have hallucinations.... cool! :)
