I am very interested in ordering a JP6 but it would be great if I had an idea of the price, and the prices of options, before I started. Is there a price list, msrp is good enough, online? Or, better yet, is there an online configurator somewhere?

I visited my local dealer over the weekend and their aloof sales staff ignored me. I am not keen on hounding people to beg for the opportunity to spend $2k. I could visit the local GC but I am trying to avoid that until I have a grasp of what price to expect.

Any and all pointers will be appreciated.

CALL your local GC, ask to speak to the guitar floor manager. Tell him (or her) exactly what you told us. They can either give you that info over the phone, OR, have them get it and call you back. That is what they are there for. That's what I would do.

Make sure to ask them for the MSRP price too - you can figure from there what kind of deal you should expect - and then find a place to give it to you!

To get ballpark figures, you could try some places like Wild West Guitars, Make'n Music, and even Musician's Friend. They all have internet presences. My personal favorite is DuBaldo Music Center.

Dubaldo

Thanks for the advice. Yesterday I contacted Pete (I think) at Dubaldo by e-mail and am awaiting a reply.

Most GC's won't give prices over the phone. At least, the one here in Nashville won't. They will tell you what they have in stock, but to get the price, you have to actually go to the store.

I am not sure I understand Big Poppa's comment. Change the name from Ernie Ball to Ernie Dubaldo? Interesting concept but then my old "Balls are Best" t-shirt will be obsolete.

What?!?!? What is this, 1971??? "Contracts are for suckers, Wonka!"

Come on! Go online then and find a different GC to call - their prices are the same all over the country. Stupid stupid stupid.

I get it

maybe lose the "gibsonguy" name and become say "ebguy" or something like that...
;)

I have been a member of this forum for 24 hours and I was waiting for someone to notice. You know, it could be my last name or where I live, like Port Gibson. Alternatively I may be interested in buying a jp6 because all I've owned until now is Gibsons and I want to own something better. Hmm. :)

Seriously, I am messing with you and I do understand the comment.

It's all good. Stick around try the guitars, make your own mind up. I'll bet you can't own just one though...

Oh and welcome.

Yes. I bought my JP6 in 2003. I had none of the options on it. I later wanted one with all the options. I don't quite have that guitar yet, but I've definitely bought more Music Man instruments. I don't plan to stop any time soon either. :D

Well I will just welcome you off!

And we do joke around a lot, so you'll have to get used to it ;)

And for getting a JP, I would suggest Dubaldo Music. That is where I may be able to get my JP from. Hopefully

DuBaldo 1, GC 0

This morning I visited my local GC to price a JP6. I was told many things including it would take 5-6 months to get the guitar and they couldn't quote me a price without making some phone calls. Of course they did not offer to actually make the calls, the three guys who were talking to me must have been too busy.

On the other hand, earlier this week I e-mailed Pete DuBaldo and he responded with a price, including shipping, and a reasonable estimated delivery date. So far their customer service is exemplary while the other shop's is a bit lacking.

G-guy,

In all fairness to GC, sometimes store to store, employee to employee, location to location can be "worlds" apart in service!! I've experienced both sides.

On the other hand, Pete (and Colin) are probably the best person(s) one could ever buy a guitar from. Though it is nice to have a choice when buying a guitar. And, you would think that these stores would know this simple truth: a guitar player will not buy a guitar at ANY price if he does not LIKE the salesperson, i.e., if he does not like the way he is being treated!! Don't believe me - ask a guitar player!:)
