Hello

I've got a 4 string Stingray which ive had for about 3 years and there is a small problem with it.

The heel plate where the neck is bolted on to the body appears to have a crack in it. It seems to have just appeared...but it could have been there for a while.

Have any of you experienced this problem before? If so whats the best thing to do? Can i get a new plate (with the model no stamped on) it shipped over somehow?

Thanks

Gareth (UK)

Are you sure the plate is cracking? I can imagine the chrome flaking a bit, but the steel plate? What type of music do you play???
:- k

No new plate would be available.

Have a repair person look at it. A cracked neck plate would be very unusual. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks,
Greg

I actully have a Ray with a crack all the way thru on a 4 bolt plate, Very, very rare but 1 in a million it'll happen, it's more likely on a older Fender because plates we're thin. Anyway it'll never break off so you should be fine. DJ

Backplate Cracking

One possible cause of the backplate cracking is hyrdogen embrittlement due from the plating process. Nickel / Chrome plated tools often have to be post baked to relieve the stress........

Doesn't help the existing crack, but it is a possible cause...........EB should maybe look at this and I think they should offer to repair..........
