Problems with Faltwounds

Hi everyone. I'm having a slight problem, well major for me. I just bought a new stingray fretless 4 string. It came with roundwounds which sound awesome, but I wanted to use flats as they're better protection for the neck and I like the sound. The problem I have with the flats is that when I release the string it plays the open note which interferes with the performance, (tones sounding I don't want there). I'm going to try a different set of strings (lighter) I had luck with on another bass I had that had a similar problem. Any advise would be appreciated. Maybe it's a bad set up?

Try half-rounds?

Maybe try those half-round strings?

I'm ignorant on fretless. Why do you think it is a string problem?

Thanks Richie, Half-rounds might work. Bit I think a set up is in order first as this bass shouldn't be affected by flat rounds in such a way. The action is a tad high.

Thanks Tom, I don't think strings are the problem but the set up. I mentioned the strings as the problem on another bass I had as the bass was the problem. But this bass is top notch all the way. So it must be the set up.

A lot of flat brands are higher in tension than comparable gauge rounds, which could be contributing to the problem you're experiencing. Perhaps try some lower tension flats, such as TI?
