Just shot Pete an email. I'm really looking forward to this purchase as I have been bashing my head trying to choose a guitar. I actually considered a luke as wildwestguitars has them on sale (namm sale), but ultimately decided that actives are not for me. Let's just hope that the 20th Ann. is in my price range.

Re: the piezo

I've never used a piezo, nor have I knowingly heard one used. Based on your experience and opinion, is it worth it to add the piezo option? I'm not quite sure, but I believe the piezo involves some sort of active electronics. If those electronics were to fail, could it affect the overall performance (sound wise) of the guitar?

The piezo is a nice feature, and I have it on a Petrucci model. I like the added tone versatility, but it's not a "must have" unless you want to try something different. While it is a nice feature, I don't use it in a live setting too often. The Silhouettes with the piezo do have an extra cavity routed on the back for the electronics (as do the JP models), along with extra circuitry wiring, so you may notice some ever so slight tonal differences compared with an otherwise identical non-piezo model. However, you would not have a catastrophe if the battery for the piezo were to die. The piezo circuit does not affect the magnetic pickups at all.

I love the piezo. Having the piezo on my silhouette(s) keeps me from needing/wanting to take any other guitar with me when I gig. Before the Dream Theater concert started I pointed out to my friend, you hear that acoustic guitar warming up? That's John Petrucci's EBMM.
I run mine directly through the mixer to the PA. Others like running it through a dedicated acoustic amp. You can run it at the same time through your regular amp if you want to. I think they sound great and if the option is available on the EBMM I want then I will get it.
