Quest on Y2d compared to my others..

Will getting the Y2d allow me to get sounds/do things that my Axis or Luke cannot ? I know it's a lovely looking but sound and tone wise I'd like to know. Or is it redundant getting this guitar?

Also, Anyone have a regular Morse and the Y2d? If so, do you miss the toggle options on the original, or is it no big deal?
 
If you get the Floyd version, you're looking at a few more pickup options, poplar back, and rosewood fretboard for starters. I think the SM-Y2D can cover most of the Axis territory and is a bit more versatile. The neck profiles on both guitars are excellent. Since you have a Luke too, it maybe redundant, but they're all three different in various ways. I just bought a Luke and it should arrive in a day or two. I love my SM-Y2D, but the Luke will have much to offer too (piezo, etc.).

Do you really need a reason to purchase another MM?
 
The Morse/Y2D has a few different sounds than either.

The neck pickup is much less heavy than the Axis neck pu and has it's own sound. As has been said, the real "secret weapon" is the single coil- it's a great tele twangy sounding pickup that sounds great on it's own and mixed with the bridge pickup. Neither the Axis or Luke has that. But, the Luke has the single coil neck and quacky vibe that you can't get with the Y2D. In all, it's just different than the Axis or the Luke.

I've got both a Morse and Y2D- I don't have any problem switching between them at all. I don't miss the 4th pickup much either. (I do miss the piezo since my Morse has one and my Y2D doesn't ... but that's another story ...)
 
Thanks guys. The piezo is another story for me as well. I don't regret not getting one on my current Luke but would like to get one on my next guitar.
 
Forgive me if this has been covered before, but are the "old" Morse pickups and the Y2D pickups (I'm talking 'bout just neck and bridge humbuckers) different other than color?
