Question about piezo.

Hi all, I apologize if this has been asked before. I plan on buying a Petrucci model Music Man with the piezo system, however, I notice that it has 2 output jacks on the guitar in all the images I see. When I play live, I use a wireless guitar setup. I am just wondering if it is possible to just plug into one jack and be able to use both the magnetic pickups, and the piezo.

If you use the "mono" jack you will be able to use both types of pickups, but both sounds will come through the same amplifier - so, if you have the overdrive on, it will overdrive the piezo tone, too. I suppose you could use 2 wireless transmitters (one in each jack, but you may still have some magnetic bleed through on the mono jack), and 2 receivers (one for the magnetics to your amp and one to PA), but the best way, and the way it was designed, is to use a TRS (stereo) cable in the stereo jack and use an EB splitter / DI box ground lift.

Thank you so much. I have a pedal for my amp so I can easily change from my distorted channel to my clean channel when I want to use the piezo. I just wanted to know if I would have to come up with some crazy rig just so I can use a wireless live. I really appreciate the help, thank you very much.

I sure can, there's a few brands to choose from but only one is "right" EB makes them with straight or 90* ends.

Get The Splitter

the splitter rocks HARD. You can have two signals going at once. You can have a SICK HEAVY distorted tremolo or ring mod coming out your amp, and piezo sounds direct into the PA. just killer.

I was just thinking actually... some acoustic guitars have piezo pickups and there are acoustic amps which are supposed to cater for acoustic guitars. In the absence of a PA that you can plug directly into, wouldn't an acoustic amp be the best alternative?

Yes, or even an extra bass amp can sometimes work
