Ok....I have been getting a nice lesson since I have been on the forum from all you great techie guys. Me, being the none tech type, has a question.

Pots....I notice there are 250 ohm vs. 500 ohm. I understand resistance and what not, but what does it do in terms of tone, sound, etc?

My "tech sensei" OC has been bringing this old man up to speed on effects, amps and pick ups, now I would like to know about Pots. (Not the kind you grow either...I think we covered that once...hehehehehe).

Obviously, most of you know I have Pets, so what's up with their pots?

So, any and all knowledge will be soaked up like a sponge over on this end....:D

Basically the general rule is Single coils like 250k pots, but humbuckers like the 500k's....to be honest different valued pots can change the tone allaround (not just the values i've mentioned...some times you see dudes with 1meg pots w/ buckers...). Basically the higher the value, the more highend gets pumped out thus making the guitar's tone "brighter" when fully open, however a higher value will also lower the sweep when turning down thus making the highs drop off at a faster rate than the standard setup (see general rule...).

Then there's the issue of audio taper pots versus linear pots....an example would be rolling volume off with an audio taper pot on say about 7 which will have the same effect as rolling of a linear pot to around 3. Gibby used to use linear pots in the way backs...
