Question about string mutes

I assuming that the string mutes can be disabled on the older SR's. But can it be done quickly - say in between songs. Is there a lever? etc.?

Chris...Each mute has a thumb screw so, it could be done between songs(if your singer does long winded intros

Well while I'm at it - Is there anyway to "add-on" to the newer bridges to be able to have string mutes? I do a lot of string muting with the edge of my plucking hand - having it built into the bridge would make it quite nice!
