question about types of woods (big poppa help out please :O)

as my petrucci order draws near i need to ask a question i can't seem to find in the pics.
My teacher has a Tom Anderson from mid 90s and it has an amazing rosewood fretboard, it is never dry although he never oils it, i've yet to found a guitar that has such an amazing wood on it.

My question is what wood is used for fingerboard on the petrucci ? and are all the models have a birdseye maple neck back to them ?
 
I don't think we need Poppa for that.

The Petrucci has a rosewood board, and birdseye maple is too rare nowadays to be used on regular production guitars. (information subject to correction by people who know better of course ;))
 
BP has said birdseye is generally saved for signature models. My JP has a bit. It's luck of the draw as to what the neck is really like.

I also think you'll find the rosewood fretboard on the JP to be very "amazing."

I was wondering about that. My JP7 is highly figured, but I never gave it much thought. Then I recently went shopping for a JP6 and noticed that it's neck isn't nearly as figured. Not that it matters to me.
 
The rosewood fingerboard on my JP is actually amazing, and it's got hella birdseye on the back of the neck, but then again I got it a few years ago.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what you get.
 
I hope my Axis has some birdseye on it....the birdseye doesn't make me play better its ....it's just eye candy baby :D
 
Larry, your LUKE has a ton of birdesye in the neck.


Regarding the rosewood & "dryness" I have noticed a lack of dryness on all of my EBMMs with rosewood boards. I'm a big rosewood fan and wouldn't have a maple fretboard in my arsenal if I had a choice. I've noticed that EBMMs are the most maintenance free rosewood boards at the store. These boards are great, and the JP is my favorite.

My JP has a dark rosewood that almost looks like ebony. It does not look dry. On the other hand my Luke fretboard always looks thirsty even after wonderwiping it.
