Question for Sterling re: fret material

For a class im taking i need to do a report on a material, ala stainless steel, carbon fiber, etc , and relate it to a product that it is used in. I have to research the properties of the material and then relate it to why they would use that type for the product.

I wish to do it on the frets on the ebmm basses.

Any information would help. What is the exact metal used, as specific as possible? The gauge of the fretwire would be a nice bit of information too.

Anyone who knows this can help, idk if Sterling himself is responsible for knowing the specifics. The main thing being that there are tons of types of nickel and stainless steel..

what exactly is used on EBMM stuff?

this i something I have wondered too, as there are several types of frets to choose from. I will guess, and my guess is 18% nickel and as hard as they make it.

any # would be cool, like (this is a bs #) Nickel A5634 like somethign like that? Il be using www.matweb.com to get info so if it is one listed there thatd be nice.

The only one I found that looks like fret wire is this:
Nickel Silver 65-18 (752), hardened

But there is 12% fret wire too, and different hardnessess.

I've just returned from a wild weekend of trenching, gluing PVC pipe, and tipping over large equipment!! Perhaps they should put a warning on PVC glue not to operate heavy machinery under the influence? I welcome questions about GUITARS...

The fretwire we use is "18% Nickel Silver". Obviously you are looking for more specific info than that, so I will "dig up" (I'm getting quite good at that...) some more info for you and get back ASAP.
