Question for you Sterling guys/gals

Ok so I've been looking into getting a Sterling cause I played one the other day and I love that slimmed down neck but I didnt have enough time to really analyze the sound other than it sounded awsum lol. anywho im unfarmiliar with the switch its got. i know it switches from single coil to humbucker and whatnot but if anyone can tell me how it sound under each position by comparing it to another bass. thanks alot.

so i have no idea if we listen to the same music ... i listen/play punk and metal and these are examples of songs id use the switches for ...

Bridge -
Orion by Metallica (the bass "solo" breakdown)

middle -
Not much actually. its got a pretty thin & bright tone

Neck -
more "umph" than the middle but not as "low" as bridge. I use this for most punk rock

I believe that the Sterling is the same as the SR5. I use the bridge position 99% of the time; its the closest to the classic Stingray tone. The neck position is growly, but it is too dead sounding, and the middle position it pretty thin. Some people think the middle position sounds like a Jazz bass, but I don't hear it. The bridge position is really sweet, though!

There really isn't that much of a diffence in sound between the switch positions when you're playing in a live band situation unless you have dog ears. Playing by yourself or in quiet passages may yield a difference.

I can hear a pretty big difference for slapping. With a clean rig and a bright tone, the bridge position gives a much snappier sound. btw, I have pretty good ears, but nothing compared to my two hounds

In fact, the Serling was built as the 4 string version of the SR5
