When you tap both of the magnets of the pickup. The coil closes to brige makes a sound. The coil clpse to neck makes a sound but not as loud. And is it normal to have a slight pop when switching series to single, single to parallel. Ther is no pop single coil to series. I just recently got a used Stingray 5. I'm back in the family. After slling my 89 Stingray 5 , and 2006 limited ed Stingray 5 HS.

It would be better and easier if you would contact customer service. Contact info is listed on the ebmm website!

Thanks for the reply. I contacted customer service but haven't got a reply yet, so any Stingray5 single ceramic humbucker owners there can help out would be very much appreciated. Just tap both coils with any metal in the single coil mode. Let me know also about the pop between switching.

No need to scream.
I have no SR5 in my basement.

1) Both coils in series - tapping with metal should be the same
2) Single coil - tapping the coil closest to the bridge shoulb be louder
3) Both coils in parallel - tapping with metal should be the same

With the switch in the 'closest to neck' position, the pickup's flow of voltage follows a snake like pattern around the poles, this is called the Series position, creating an out of phase slightly brighter humbucker tone. The second position is the Single Coil position, only the coil closest to the bridge is used creating a thin, bright sound for soloing, a phantom coil is added to reduce single coil noise. The last position is the Parallel position, use this for the traditional thick bottom end bass sound made famous by the Stingray 4.

What was your second question?

Well bert, your explanation is good but in single coil mode. Tapping with a screwdriver, only 1 of the coils should make a popping sound trough the amp.
About the swiching noise, i never had problems with it but there is allways gonna be some kind of pop but if it is really loud, this is not normal.

Right, a bit switching pop noise wouldn't worry me.
Tested my old Sabre, if you tap with a screwdriver against the pickup coils you hear some low volume crosstalk of the coils.
- Electrically is sanderherman right.

Indeed if you tap the non active coils, the tapping wil always be picked up slightly by the active coil. But there is a verry clear difference

Thanks guys. So it is normal. I thought there was some wiring issue. The pop between series to single and single to parallel is not too loud. Just makes me think why there ia no pop from single coil to series
