Being that tomorrow (today) is a holiday & I'm off of work, I'm still up at 1:45 A.M. I've been jamming on my SR5 for the past couple of hours & hoping that my wife & daughter don't hear me & wake up. :D I'm rehearsing some songs for a band that I might be joining in the near future.

Anyway, I started off on my trusty SR4 tonight since I've been feeling like I'm neglecting it. That bass is such a joy to play. It's the easiest playing bass of my 3 basses. But every time I play it, I feel like I'm missing something Then I strap on my SR5 & all is right with the world. I never would have thought it, but I'm addicted to that 5-string bass. I've been a 4-string player exclusively since I seriously began playing bass about 14 years ago.

I got the SR5 a few months ago when Ken (Moondog) & I swapped basses. He has my former SR4 in black/black/rosewood, and I took his SR5 in burnt apple/white pearl/rosewood. I liked the 5-stringer from the start, but it took me a long time to really get comfortable with it. I played the hell out of it for weeks & weeks. Soon I felt good playing it. But I kept having doubts as to whether or not I was really a 5-string player. I kept looking at my SR4 & thinking about how easily it plays & how nice the simplicity of a 4-string bass is. I'd play the SR4 every now & then, but I'd realize that I was wanting to play the SR5. There's something about that SR5 that just feels right to me...I can't really put my finger on it.

I don't really know why I posted this. It's late & I really should be in bed now. :D I just wanted to proclaim my love for this SR5 of mine & thank BP & Co. for making such outstanding musical instruments!!
 
I know that 5-string love, although my heart beats for Bongos only.
I must say the switch from 4 to 5 was just so easy, going from custombuilt PJ type instruments to the Bongo was like no big deal at all. But now, playing even a Bongo 4 feels real strange.

Bongo 5 is where it's at for me:D

Joel, I'm sorry but no. The envy green Bongo (Ed) is light, beautiful and to top it off it used to belong to our beloved leader Bovinehost. However, I'll trade you your BC for my DG any day:D

Seriously, green basses are the best, that's why i lured jack into selling it to me.
There was a EG Bongo on sale somewhere, or so a post said about a week ago. real cheap too.
The colour is aptly named for sure!

Some weeks ago I hoped to be able to make you an offer on the BC, but sadly finances didn't allow for it...

If you are interseted in a pre/power amp setup or vintage Washb*r*s, we'll talk trades;)

My 4 stringers all went some where they would get played after I got my SR5.

I don't have to crank the amp to be heard. I don't have to think to play it. I just have to stand there and smile and feel good about music.

I’m still on the fence with five string basses, I have a beautiful natural/tort/maple SR5, but I play it the least. Right now the bass in the heaviest rotation here is my BC SR4… with flats!

I got to where I could control the SR5 pretty good, but I still fear getting lost on the fretboard. I need another bass gig that required a fiver and then in a short time I’d be a five string man.

I will say this; out of all the five string basses I’ve had, the SR5 is hands down the best. It has a very good, very useable B string, killer tone and the carved body I think is the prettiest of the EBMM family. (I’m not Bongo bashing here, but the SR5 is “Gaw-Jis”!) :D
 
Hey Bill,

I certainly know what you feel. I am obsessed with my MusicMan and when my five comes, it will probably be my new default bass while my four-string will be used for stuff where an extended low range will not be needed.

In order not to fall out of feel with either one of them, I tend to alternate between four and fivers anyway in order to keep them in play and prevent neglect.:)

When my HH SR5 arrives i plan on playing the hell out of it for at least a week before even touching my sterling. I really want to get comfortable on a 5er :).
 
Itll be my second 5er, i owned a Spector 5er a little while back and never played it for more than 20 minutes at a time for about a year. The B was weak.

I wasnt aware that Spectors had bad Bs prior to buying one. I had played one in the store and thought it was okay, but that was before i played a SR5.
 
They didn't let you play it at the store?

Just kidding, I know what it is to learn from something that was missed due to exuberance.

The point has more to do with what I was saying than the reason, if you know what I mean?
