OK all you Steve Morse freaks.
I've never really listened to his music but since I've been reading some of these threads on this board I'd like to check him out.

Please make some recommendations to me before I go music shopping!!!

I'm fairly new to Morse as well and have to say you can just pick a CD and you'll get something great. Plus, he's so ecclectic that you really have to listen to everything he's done. So, start with the first Dregs album and go from there.

I'd say Southern Steel or Coast to Coast is a good place to start. Or maybe even Stressfest. All are very good. High Tension Wires is amazing - if you can find a cheap copy - if you can find 2 - let me know - I "leant" mine to a buddy about 10 years ago (along with another now out of print CD) and he moved to Connecticut without returning them and I was never able to track him down.

Also important is to find a song you like and learn it. Lots of TAB and some backing tracks are available. This is the best way I know to become a better guitar player.

This question comes up periodically.

Much of Steve's best stuff is REALLY hard to find.

If you like violin and keyboard -- go with the Dixie Dregs stuff.
Full Circle
Dregs of the Earth
Bring 'em Back Alive (live)

These are available at stores sometimes.

And Steve Morse band, I agree with others.
Stressfest
Coast to Coast
Southern Steel
High Tension Wires (the most Lush)

I'd avoid the Major Impacts releases until later.

Hello Folks

I am a complete Morse addict ... I have a huge collection of Steve CD & DVD.
My favourites are :
The Introduction
High Tension Wires
Bring Them back Alive (Live with the Dregs)
Southern Steel

You can buy also the DVD (Live in Germany 1990, Sects Dregs & Rock'n Roll).
With Deep Purple, please watch the DVD with the London Philarmonic and the Live in Australia 1999.

But as already said, every record is good so do like me : buy everything !:) :) :)

Morse rules !

Once again I too am a Morse freak. Anything you get from him will display his amazing composition skills and of course his beautiful technical playing. I agree with the others on the CDs they stated. Coast to Coast and Southern Steel will give you his faster paced a bit heavier stuff. I dunno, just get em all!!!!! :D

Buy everything you can get your hands on and listenlistenlisten. Preference is to buy from Steve's site so he gets more of the $ than the distributors. If you can't find it on his site, then try the music stores, evilbay, half.com, secondspin.com etc.

Anything that he played on is bound to be wonderful.

But Stressfest was my pleasant introduction a couple of months back. It's still getting heavy rotation.

You're tight Tommy, Split Decision is a KILLER album by Mr. Morse. I always forget about that album even though it is one of my ALL time favourites! But then again I love them ALL. I just love Steve M. !!!!! :D
