I was just about to buy this - Guitar Tracks Pro V3. What do you chaps (and Beth) think.

I just use cheap stereo mic (vivanco company) put it to my Marshall AVT 150 and straight to mic jack in the sound card, software is Cool Edit Pro 2.0 . It sounds good if you tweak a little bit

yea mate off for another week. Eid is just around the corner too. 40 days of mourning over here. Most things shut at the moment. No cinema or live music for a while (including local radio).

Sad days in Dubai. Hope things will not change too much for westerners with the new guy in charge.

From what I got to see, Sheikh Mohamed called most of the shots anyway.
With him in charge my guess is that things won't change at all - if anything more liberal!

I hope to pop over - maybe next crimbo - depends on funds !!!

I use a Fostex VF-16 digital multitracker to record at home. I write software for a living, so any chance NOT to use a computer, I take.

Honestly, you can make good recordings with just about any gear, if you've got a good ear and you observe good techniques. So just get something and get started!

Those are cool little units. I've got one of those in my closet. I used it up until I got my Pro Tools LE rig. I actually did all the tracking for a friend's record on it with great results.

Now I have a Carillon turn key rig that I just love. I'm running the Digi 002 rack and I just got version 7 of the Pro Tools.

I'm more on the bass side, but I use Guitar Trax 3 on my laptop. To mic the guitar/bass, I use a shure SM57 into a Tascam US-122. The tascam came with a limited version of cubase, but I haven't used it as I have the Guitar Tracks software.

I run a Boss DR770 drum machine through the tascam into the laptop as well. Seems to all work pretty good, though I haven't recorded too much lately.

Any probs with 7? I've had it here since it was released but haven't loaded it yet.

No problems yet. It's hasn't been an earthshattering update though either.

I don't think so, he was on holiday not far from where I live. They had to fast track all the red tape to get him home, so he could be buried before sunset.

How did you get your US 122 to work with your Guitar Tracks software? I just got Guitar Tracks Pro and I have had a difficult time getting it started....

I use a GNX3000 with Sonar 5 Producers edition. Very convenient.

I used a PC runnig cubase sx3 with a egosys waveterminal 192 L...

now I have a Imac runnig logic pro, an RME fireface 800 and an art tube mp preamp...very professional but the first setup was enough to work home (expect the fact it was a pc..)

according to me , the best way to record home is to get an Imac or an macbook, using included garage bad and just a Istudiolink calbe to connect the guitar...if you work alone, you don't need a soundcard with a mac, the core audio does the job by itself...no latency.
