Help! Replacing Pickups

Hello everyone,
I recently got my SM-Y2D back from my dad (he wasn't happy with it for some reason, too many years of playing LP's I guess) and I'm about to buy some replacement pickups for it. However, the pickups I'm eying are square-tabbed. My question is if you have replaced the pickups in your MM how did you cut the tabs to fit in the body? Or did you modify the body of the guitar to fit? I would rather just cut the tabs with some wire clippers or something if that's possible, but I figured I would see if anyone has any experience doing it and what they recommend. Any info would be great. Thanks!
 
Funny ... I just bought 2 Steve Morse Di Marzio humbuckers in order to put them in my SUB ...
 
Yea the Suhr pickups I put into mine had the square tabs. I just cut them to a triangular shape with heavy duty wire cutters. Just be careful with the cut off piece so it doesn't fly into your face. Took a little bit of brute force, but got the job done.
 
Thanks, Roubster that was what I was thinking. As for replacement pickups, I've got it narrowed down to a Duncan JB SH-4/SH-2 (Jazz) combo, the Suhr Doug Aldrich pups, or (pretty unlikely) the Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Blackouts. I really hate to put active pickups into the guitar since it doesn't have a battery hatch so I'm not really considering those too seriously. I really wanted a set of Holy Diver or Miracle Man pups from Bareknuckle, but I can't seem to find anywhere to buy a set.
 
it may not be helpful.. but don´t change the PUPs on an Steve Morse without trying everything with them before. Play with the height or anything... they are very versatile!
 
Yeah, they definitely are very versatile. I've adjusted the pickup height, replaced the 250k pots with 500k pots, and tweaked my Mark V a bunch and I just can't get the sound I want. I really would rather not replace the pups but I don't see any other alternative.
