I have no idea what the build quality is like on these things, but I'll presume it's fairly high-end... That being said, the RKS is such a radical re-think of the design of an electric guitar that it's difficult to compare them to more conventional makers... Design, materials, even switch, knob and jack design and placement are far from the norm on these guitars, and I think their appeal will be somewhat limited as a result. What's always attracted me to my EBMMs is their evolutionary approach to guitar development - their designs, though unique, are really guitarist driven, imho (whether the guitarist in question is Dudley or Luke or BP or Steve), while guitars like the Parker Fly and this RKS seem to be as much a product of the desire to play with "cool" technology, as to meet the needs of a working musician. Just my opinion, of course, ymmv, & etc.

I never heard of RKS until this thread. However, it does seem as tho Dave Mason has had a fair amount of input into the detail aspects of these guitars. So, I'd say there is some guitarist driven improvements. Also, since the headstock, tuners, neck, frets, fingerboard, pickups, electrics and even the neck through body design all seem to be "normal", the evolutionary or revolutionary aspect seems to be the body. I guess whether the body is evolutionary or revolutionary depends on your definition. Personally, the body design with the space ribs doesn't do much for me. I am intrigued by the use of polymers for the body material. Quality body woods are growing scarcer by the day, and therefore becoming more expensive. If there's a manmade material which can simulate the vibrations and sustain demonstrated by woods which serve as guitar body materials, and which can result in satisfactory guitar bodies at a reasonable cost, either by the material or the body construction pricing, then I'm all for someone trying to make this work.

Right now tho, personally, I can't say the cost ($4000 plus for a solid body, list) justifies me seriously considering them.
