Well, Good evening everyone(atlist those on GMT+2)
I joined new band 2 weeks ago, and we are doing realy good trought those weeks,
we already had few performance, with some original stuff, and people actually liked us.
One of our main problems is that we don't have a name for the band, or we have, and here is the place where I need your opinion:

Yesterday before the performance they told me that they found a name: "Nistagmos".

No we arn't a metal band, we are a rock band(no a regular rock band, but that's not for now ;) )
I told to my band mates that this name is to long, and people won't remember the name, how to spell it, or say it, and no one will no what is the meening of this name.

I will be glad if you can say what do you think about the name "Nistagmos" for a rock band.

thanks alot!
(sorry for english mistakes, spelling, etc )

"Nistagmos". ????????

Did a quick search and found nothing on meaning, if you are looking for opinions, try something else, not even sure how to pronounce it properly.

I would say keep playing together, and then come up with a name. I know it's kinda hard to go playing live without a name, but once you have written some original stuff, it will set a certain tone, and you can find a name that best matches your style and your main idea as a group. To me, unless a name has some meaning, or matches the band's image or sound, it's lame. I had the same problem before, but we just took our time, and we did have a couple of lame-o names. I finally have a good one, and I still carry this particular band name with me to this day, even though i still need 2 more guys for the band to really exist. Good luck man, just be patient.

Not that I've found great success with my bands, but I'd definitely say choose another name. Donald Passman goes into alot of detail in his book about the importance of the name. It needs to be easily remembered.

So does Al Reis and Jack Trout, in their book "Positioning - The battle for your mind".

Totally agrees on an easy to recall name.

Well, I tried to convice them that it's a rly bad name, they don't want to listen and they say "we don't care what other people say" what is completley wrong because if they don't care about thire audience, the audience will not care about them, but im tired of argu with them, so I think I will just let them stay with this and focus making music.

 Apparently they don't care about what one of their bandmates thinks either. I think you should put your foot down man; make them respect you and show them that decisions can't just be made arbitrarily. Otherwise, things like this will probably continue to happen and will cause a rift between people in the band.

Well, the main problem is that Im living is a small place, I dont alot of options, and I still can't drive a car yet, so it's or play alone, or play with them, and I want to get some experience with gigs, playing with other and so, and nexr year, when I will have the car, I will get outside this small place and use my experience I got, with better peopol

"we don't care what other people say"

Wow is right. Lahav, I'd say start your own band. Not caring what the audience thinks is lame, but not caring what your own band members think is just stupid. I could go off on this forever. He is wrong by the way. If they aren't PAYING you to be in the band, you have just as much say. PERIOD. If they don't respect that, then this is only the beginning of many miserable arguments.

I dunno... If you just want the experience of playing in a band, I see no harm in going with the flow with them for awhile. If you enjoy playing with them, that's reason enough for now. Later you can call some if not all the shots.

After I finished my serious go as an acoustic singer-songwriter with my own backup band, I joined local bands just for the fun of it; just laying in the background and playing my part. Didn't matter what the band was called, so long as we were having fun. Oy! some of the names they chose. "Hot posse", for example . Yes, I know, it got a lot of snickers. :D

If/when you get serious, then a proper name becomes important. Until then, just learn what you can and let the good times roll.

Yeah, that makes sense. Experience and fun are definitely very good things. If you're having fun, stick with it. take care.

Why don't you guys play under the lead singer's name? Like "Jerry and the Band" until the whole band has a name. Why not have a combo over everyone's last name? Like a play off Van Halen or Slaughter or something.

Well, I Don't realy like the idea of the lead singer's name things, because people see this like the band is there for the singer.
Im having fun, we are trying to make our own music, im getting my experince, and im just 16, whole life is in front of me, as I said, I will leave the name like it is, and focus making music and fun.
thanks for help!
