He started the show with an Axis Super Sport threw a JCM800 Half stack, a couple of Boss stomp boxes THAT WAS IT....NO BS
What came outta there were gods words, I sware.......
Yesterday, I wanted to complain on the Dream Theatre Board about Kim Mitchel not being in the top 100 Guitar players list.
After last night.....It has become a mission.
No really, I am a big J.P. VH, Satch, VAI, Malmsteen fan etc
But Kim is up there with all of them. If you hear of him in your area.....dont even think abou it....GOOOOO

Couldn't agree more!! I have always wondered why Kim hasn't gotten more exposure. Perhaps it is by choice, as he is basically a regular old Canadian boy who wants to live as normal a life as possible.

My cousin actually knows Kim. They both have places in Collingwood (a resort town North of Toronto for you non-Ontario types) and she gets to play tennis with him occasionally. I narrowly missed an opportunity to meet him at my cousin's wedding. I was away on business and couldn't go. My wife went and got to meet Kim. I was soooo jealous!

I first saw him when I was 10 years old in my home town. Max Webster was opening for Rush on the Farewell to Kings tour. It was general admission, and we ended up about 3 rows from the front. That image of Kim jumping around in pyjamas with a huge bow tie, mixed with the pot-saturated air, must have altered my brain cells. I knew from that moment that I had to get an electric guitar!!!

I've seen him a few times since then, and am always amazed by his playing. I think that the lighter "radio friendly" hits he has had since the Shaking Like a Human Being album may have tarnished his image as a guitar god, but some of the older stuff really smokes. There is a lot of Zappa influence in the earlier Max Webster albums.

Max Webster have long been one of my favourite bands, and Kim's solo career is equally impressive. There's no doubt he can play, but he also writes some excellent "pop" tunes - he's just a hugely talented guy who's doing what he does and doesn't really care if anyone else buys into it or not... kinda like Prince, only a little more grounded I saw Webster 14 times before they broke up and I have no idea how many dozen times I've seen Kim play in the last 25 years, but I'm always willing to go see him once more...
