scratchy volume pot

On my Axis SS, already got a brand new volume pot and had it installed a couple months ago, literally no change.........trying to do volume swells, especially fast ones really accentuates the scratchy noise........if it is not the volume pot itself, what else could I have purchased a defective pot or something? Guitar got both a new volume, tone, and 5 way switch installed at the same time, maybe 6-12 months ago ( I can't remember, not that long, and really don't use the ASS much). Is it a ground or pickup issue maybe? How? Tone knob does not have any issues.

Actually, I do,..........shop suppossedly fixed this and changed out the guts for the jack, but it still has a problem. Thanks.

I'd bring it back to the shop that did the work for you. Maybe they'll correct the problem for free, since you paid them once already.
 
So you had it done 6-12 months ago ... did it just get scratchy now?

If so, get a can of Caig Deoxit D5 and have at 'er.
 
Played my JP6 after it had been sat in a gig bag for a while - had scratchy vol pot. Just like Beej said - a quick squirt - turn the knob backwards and forewards a couple of times and it should be fine. - Use good quality switch cleaner.(as Beej said again!!)
Why good quality? Cheaper stuff has been known to leave a residue.

Spud..have you thought of putting out a thread of all of your Mr. Fix It ideas.They are all simple,common sense solutions ..you seem to see thru the smoke..very helpful,and very appreciated...I know Beej figured this one out,but you have published countless remedies for us knucklheads.Thanks...if I could,I*d buy you a pint or twelve.
 
Very kind of you to say that Alf - if memory serves me right I had a thread once called Spuds Top Tips lets see if I can find it.

I was in a meeting during the week - 12 people around the table all talking and making their subject a science. I seem to have a "reflective" mode built in, and I let them have their say, thinking to myself 2boy do we need to hear this?". At the end of it I went thro the chair and made my view point - basically cutting out the cr4p! There was a moments silence and someone said Yes that's it, Mr Murphy's summary is spot on.The delegates all agreed.- I glanced over to my boss and he gave me a smile. Now a bonus would be nice but i'm in the second year of a pay freeze lol.

I'm guessing that 43 years of playing guitar helps here though. but thanks again for that - I needed a boost!!

As Beej and Spud recommended! It only takes just a micro of dust, etc. . . . to become annoying, and, always the best place to start "fixin' those things.
 
Sounds like a cold solder joint causing a bad ground connection. I would reflow every joint and reseat every control making sure controls that are grounded by a mechanical connection to the shield are snug.
